Rowan House Society Shelter Pet Program - September 2025
Pets aren’t just animals - they’re family, and family shouldn’t be left behind.
More details to come, stay tuned for more!
Hi - I’m Violet
I call the Rowan House Society Shelter my home. I have a ‘Tail’ all my own - I wasn’t safe with my original owner and I set out to find a place where I belonged. I came upon the Shelter House one day and from the moment I set my paws on the porch I knew I was home.
I brighten the shelter staff and clients days with a purr and the occasional mouse to the doorstep to show my appreciation.
I was the inspiration for bringing pets to our shelter and in September 2024, we will be welcoming cats and dogs to accompany their owners who come to stay the Rowan House Society.
More of Violet’s story coming soon!

Alberta SPCA study (2012) showed:
59% of abused women with animals were afraid to seek help out of concern for their animals
36% of abused women with animals reported that their abuser threatened or harmed their animals
85% of threats against animals were carried out
in cases that involved children, as well as threatened animals, 85% of women reported the children witnessed the threat or harm to the animal
in half of those cases, it was the child’s own pet.
