Help us - Shine a Light on Family Violence Prevention Month

New online reporting platform launched to support safety and prevention in rural communities.

In conjunction with Family Violence Prevention Month, we’ve launched a new reporting tool that is available on our website. REES (Respect, Educate, Empower, Survivors) - a free, confidential, and encrypted online platform where individuals can safely document experiences of domestic violence and abuse.

Users can choose “if and when” they want to share their data-safe record of information or connect with Rowan House Society for supports.

THANK YOU

〰️

THANK YOU 〰️

Thank you to everyone who attended our 3rd Annual ‘Rhythms for Rowan House’ event

It was our highest guest turn out - 160 community members joining us for a night of delicious Big Sky BBQ Food, talented musicians, silent auction and fun - all in support of our mission to break the cycle of domestic violence and abuse in our communities.

We raised over $35,000 to help support our 7 core programs and continue our life changing work.

Planning is already underway for next year!

On Friday, October 3, 2025 to commemorate our 25th year of supporting individuals and families throughout the greater Foothills area, the Town of High River generously donated a beautiful bench, plaque, flower boxes, and a Mountain Ash (Rowan) Tree in Landfill Park.

This thoughtful display offers a welcoming space for our community to reflect, relax, and celebrate the strength and growth we’ve achieved together. We hope that everyone will use the space to enjoy nature for many years to come.

Thank you to the Town of High River and everyone who made marking this milestone a success. We look forward to continuing to serve our community as we continue our mission to break the cycle of domestic violence and abuse in our communities.

Report to Community

On September 23, 2025, when we asked the High River & surrounding area to join us to read and “unpack” a new report: built from local data and community voices, the foundation for a ‘made-in-High River’ primary prevention plan for stopping domestic violence and abuse before it starts.

This project was made possible with the assistance from Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence, HelpSeeker Technologies, University of Alberta Care Lab and the University of Calgary Faculty of Social Work. A special thank you to Sharon Blackwell, Lana Wells, Dr. Alina Turner and Dr. Caroline Claussen - thank you for your guidance and mentorship on the project.

This project was held in partnership with Big Hill Haven and YWCA Banff.

The recommendations made by the report give us a roadmap with ‘made-in-High River’ approach; for our community, by our community.
