In-Shelter Services

Rowan House Emergency Shelter is a short-term women’s emergency shelter located in the MD of Foothills. Our purpose is to provide a safe, supportive environment for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. In-shelter support is available for women and children who find themselves in a crisis situation and in need of emergency housing.

Our facility has:

• 24 beds in 7 bedrooms – one of which is wheelchair accessible
• Communal Kitchen
• Intake and Counselling rooms
• Interfaith Spiritual Care room
• Multi-Sensory room
• Child Care centre

Programming & Services:

Building Community & Trustworthiness 
• Each day begins with a resident circle where we focus on gratitude and positive affirmations, set intentions for the day and offer support.  

Goal Setting & Safety
• Danger assessment tool
• Safety planning
• Resiliency mapping
• Resident focused goal setting  

Choice & Collaboration
• Crisis counselling and solution-focused counselling
• Community referrals and client advocacy in a number of different areas  

• Healthy Relationship Education groups Covering topics such as:
-Healthy Relationships  
-Domestic Abuse and the Cycle of Abuse
-Effects of Abuse and Coping Skills
-Effects of Abuse on Children
-Self-Esteem and Healthy Boundaries
-Moving Forward, Safety Planning, and Community Resources
